New “Rank” Badge Available

I received some great ideas from Galen the other day. In one of his ideas, he suggested letting users have the ability to install a “Rank Badge” on their blogs in order to let their visitors know where the blog stands in terms of the myScoop ranking system.

This is what I came up with:

myScoop myRank

myScoop myRank

You will be able to find the code snippet once you click “Manage my Blog” in the control panel after logging in. However, please note that this badge does NOT act as a tracking badge.

More badges of this nature will be added soon.

New Badges Available on myScoop

There are 3 new (2 new and 1 replacement) badges now available on myScoop. As you know these badges are required to track visitors to your blog and rank your blog accordingly. Previously we only catered for blogs with a white background and this has now been changed as we have created 2 more badges that blend in rather well with the darker backgrounds that some blogs have.

These are now your current badge options available on myScoop:
myscoop_small

myscoop-logo-small-black

myscoop-logo-medium

myscoop-logo-medium-black

Where do I get these badges?
Simply log in to myScoop and click on the “Manage my Blog” button located in the control panel in the top right of the page. From there you will be able to get the code for the badge you have chosen.

SocialPress – A SA Startup Worth Watching

socialpress-logo2
A new social media platform has emerged in South Africa with great potential. Enter SocialPress.co.za, a tool designed to make business networking easy while keeping the element of fun on the cards. This is a truely great initiative started by Anton Koekemoer set to take South African socialites and business owners by storm.

I have been watching the progress of this wonderful tool for the passed week and I must say, it really is climbing the ranks and getting more popular day by day. Have a look at the following stats from Alexa.com:
socialpress

I know from experience that a climb like that in “reach” is quite exponential and very difficult to achieve. This also just goes to show that effectively networking yourself online can pay off in big ways, and Anton has done this well.

Some functionality offered from SocialPress:

  • Communicate with other members
  • Upload your links and allow others to comment on it
  • Join in on Forum discussions
  • Create and join industry related groups.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest events.
  • There will soon enough be the option to create your own SocialPress blog

Well done to SocialPress and remember to keep the momentum flowing! Keep up the great work.

Top South African Blogs

There is a lot of uncertainty around what the most popular South African blogs are. Those experienced in the world of blog aggregation would agree with me that this is a bit of a grey area and it seems there has been no clarity on this matter (or none that I can find).

Let’s take a look at what Afrigator, Amatomu and myScoop say about who’s who in the world of SA blogging.

Amatomu
1. Rugbydump.com
2. Keo.co.za
3. Watkykjy
4. Car Blog
5. Thought Leader
6. Cell Phone Reviews
7. Ifashion
8. Blat – To utter without thinking
9. LazyGamer – Console Gaming News
10. Adii Freelancer & Business Strategist

Afrigator
1. Thought Leader
2. iMod
3. 2oceansvibe
4. Web AddiCT(s);
5. Car Blog
6. South Africa Rocks
7. Wonkie CartOOns!
8. So Close
9. Justin Hartman
10. hottest gossip

myScoop
1. iMod – Cape Town Blog
2. chariotonfire
3. Witness This
4. Pfangirl Through the Looking Glass
5. Wizz RSS
6. Because I Can…
7. Harassed Mom
8. Web Frog
9. Zimbo the Clown Blog
10. aksn1p3r: Ninja Chronicles

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and do a bit of research, which was easy enough as there are some handy tools out there that the average Joe knows nothing of. The tool I used for this research was Alexa.com. With myScoop being a new blog aggregator and having only a fraction of the South African blogs registered on its server, not too much attention should be given to what they refer to as the Top 10 as they are still in the process of growing day by day.

Herewith the conclusion of the research:

topblogs

So from hereon in, we can officially say that 2oceansvibe is the most popular blog in South Africa at this point in time, with iMod and Keo trailing closely behind. You will also notice that Cell Phone Reviews is not actually a South African blog, therefore does not belong on the list. On another note, if you take a look at the trend of the increase in visitors over the past few months, you will notice that SARocks is climbing the fastest although still has quite a considerable amount of area to cover in order to reach the number 6 spot.

I’ll be reviewing this on a monthly basis to keep you in the know.

Ha ha. found someone mentioning this on Twitter… Wikipedia reckons our ears can detect semen. I’ll give it a skip thanks.
